Hello everybody,

Beer is a very popular drink in Germany as well as in the United States.
But do you think the commercials are similar, too? How do cultural differences affect advertising?

On this blog you can find some German beer ads with English subtitles.
To take a look at the American ones simply go to my other blog.

And please don't forget to take the ONLINE SURVEY. You can find it here!
Additionally, you can rate each video or leave comments, but the survey is more important
- I need the data for my term paper ;-)!

Thanks a lot for your help,
PROST and CHEERS =)

In general, I see a BIG difference between the US & German commercials! The German ones seem to focus on the quality of the beer, and the association of beer with the celebration of a job well done. In the commercials where beer was associated with just plain fun, they seemed kind of shy - the ones talking about beer quality tended to make much stronger claims and bolder statements.

I'm also struck by how much older the people in the commercials are. That's even more interesting given that the drinking age in the US is so much older. I wonder what this is saying about the underlying culture and the general marketing to youth in the US compared to the older population. I also wonder if this type of marketing has further-reaching implications in social issues like alcoholism.
